On Saturday, July 2, two music ensembles from Colombia played to a packed house. Chirimía la Contundencia is from Quibdó in Colombia’s Pacific Tropical Rainforest region. Cimarrón, making their third Festival appearance, is from the Southeastern Plains. Their new Smithsonian Folkways release, Cimarrón! Joropo Music from the Plains of Colombia, is available for sale in the Festival Marketplace and online from Smithsonian Folkways. It will be available in stores on July 26.

I saw their afternoon performances — wonderful music!! I know Cimarron has been recorded, but where can I find more from Chirimia la Contundencia and Don Abundio y sus Traviesos?

Glad you enjoyed the performances. The Festival Marketplace does not have CDs of Chirimia la Contundencia or Don Abundio y sus Traviesos for sale. If this changes, I’ll post something. We will be putting up a video from one of the Chirimia la Contundencia performances very soon, too. Still trying to track down info about where you can find their CDs.
