Jewelry has long been an essential element in the traditional dress of Hungarian girls and women. Shells, seeds, horsehair, horn, glass, and various metals were the most common materials for jewelry before industrial products began displacing them in the nineteenth century. Today, porcelain pendants, rings, and earrings hand-painted with traditional floral patterns are becoming ever more popular.
Traditional costume and jewelry, including a beaded headdress, are still worn for important occasions in Kalotaszeg, Transylvania (Romania).
