Malian Bogolan Online Exhibition

Issa Téssougué, Baba Berthé, Moussa Fofana, Oumar Cissé, and Hamadoun (Simbè) Sankaré.

We have just added an online exhibition about Malian Bogolan (mud cloth) to the website of the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. This exhibition draws upon the documentation of Malian artists who participated in the 2003 and 2011 Smithsonian Folklife Festivals, and it includes audio tracks and video. It was compiled by Meghan Hiscock, the 2011 Katzenberger Art History Intern at the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.

The online presence of the Bamara ancient art is a very important aspect to keep art alive and spread it’s culture to the rest of the world. African textiles industry should grow and this can fight the unemployment and malnutrition stricken Africa countries.

I really like the concept of the bogolan, it speaks of culture, history and roots of Malians.
