On the last day of the 2013 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, we are delighted to bring you our tenth gallery of visitor photos. Thank you to everyone who shared their work with us and with the world. We look forward to more wonderful images in 2014.

Stay tuned tomorrow for our final Best of the Festival Gallery, where we’ll select a few of our very favorite visitor photos of the 2013 Festival. Photographers selected for the Best of the Festival Gallery will receive free Festival merchandise in acknowledgement of their contributions.

If you would still like to share your images of the Festival, join us on Flickr. Not on Flickr? Sign up for free here. Be sure to tag your photos #2013Folklife.

See you again in 2014!

Returning to moderate the Flickr Group and select the galleries for the third year in a row is Ariel Fielding, a former Folklife Festival fellow in community and online engagement. Ariel first learned to use an SLR camera and a darkroom at the age of six, and has an enduring interest in documentary photography. She recently collaborated with photographer Michael Barker on ALPHA Alternative School 1972/2012, an ethnographic art project based on environmental portraiture.

I know this really doesn’t matter very much, but the final photo (of the basket weaver) must be from earlier in the Festival because, unfortunately, Eva has been in the hospital for the last few days.

      Hi Virginia,

Thanks for pointing that out, and we’re sorry to hear about Eva. Unlike the daily galleries taken by Festival staff, which generally include photos all taken on a single day, the Flickr galleries pull 10 images per day that may have been taken at any point during the Festival.
