  • A History of Urban Dance: Urban Artistry Performance

The performances of Urban Artistry, an international collective of artists and dancers, reveal how street culture aligns music and dance with dress. Members are educators as well as performers and operate with the idea that culture is not stagnant, but rather is alive and breathing, built on the legacy of past innovators. In this performance at the 2013 Smithsonian Folklife Festival’s Will to Adorn program, the troupe took a historical look at urban dance.
